IODs new website

HARARE - The Institute of Directors of Zimbabwe (IOD) has a new website meant to give members more information about Zimbabwe's economic progress, The Zimbabwean can exclusively reveal.

The IOD is a gathering of all the nation’s company directors. It currently has a membership of about 3 000 selected from all over Zimbabwe. It consists of Chief Executives, Managing Directors, Chairmen of companies, as well as Company Secretaries.

“The Business Community of Zimbabwe (BCZ) is floating a tender to qualified and competent bidders for the development of its website,” a spokesman said in an interview. “The website shall be an integral part of exchanging the BCZ’s Strategy for communication and engagement with stakeholders.”

He said he hoped the website would be up and running before the end of the first quarter of 2011 and, hopefully, before the elections are held.

The BCZ is a private sector initiative for the purpose of economic and business policy advocacy. It is comprised of nine business organisations in Zimbabwe who are known as Business Member Organsisations (BMO).

They include such organisations as the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (COMZ), the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), the Commercial Farmers Union (CFU), the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers’ Union (CFU), the Zimbabwe Farmers’ Union (ZFU), and the Zimbabwe Council for Tourism (ZCT).

The BCZ was formed in 2008 when Zimbabwe’s economy took a major plunge. Inflation soared to record breaking levels of more than 220 million percent – the worst in history. Companies then began retrenching workers causing unemployment to reach the 80 per cent mark.
