Maroto the fastest – CAF

marotoHARARE The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Gunners and Warriors striker, Norman Maroto (pictured), the fastest goal scorer at the African Nations Championships (CHAN) in Sudan.

According to the African soccer mother body, the Warriors were also named the most disciplined team at the tournament.

The Gunners striker, who is set to join newly-promoted outfit FC Platinum, scored the fastest goal at the tournament. He headed home a Denver Mukamba cross in their 2-1 defeat to neighbours South Africa in a battle for a quarter final place a week ago.

The free scoring Gunners marksman found the target after just two minutes, but the Warriors, under the guidance of caretaker coach Madinda Ndlovu, failed to build on Marotos early goal and Bafana Bafana fought back with strikes by Bheki Shabangu and Kenny Mthimkhulu to send their neighbours home from the bi-annual tournament.

Zimbabwe were making their second successive appearance at the tournament after taking part in the inaugural edition in Ivory Coast in 2009 where they also failed to go beyond the first round.
