At least 25 MDC members including Nyanga North MP, Hon. Douglas Mwonzora Senior army personnel have since taken over operations at Nyanga Police Station and no date has been set on when they will appear in court. The lawyers representing the MDC members have been making frantic efforts to have them brought before the courts but the officer in charge of Nyanga Police Station and juniors have been told by the army not to handle the case.
Meanwhile, two newly elected MDC district chairpersons for Chivi North and Chivi Central, Noah Mtisi and Bornwell Matuvhunge were today arrested in Chivi, Masvingo province on allegations that they held an illegal MDC meeting. They were arrested together with Marshall Chiomwe of Ward 30 Chivi Central, Isiah Muzondo and Henry Damba both of Chivi North.They have since been transferred to Masvingo Central Police Station.
Chivi North and Central districts last week held successful internal restructuring meetings and new executive members were elected into office. The meeting for Chivi Central was held at Nyamakwe Business Centre while the meeting for Chivi North was held at Mhandamabwe Business Centre. However, the police in Masvingo are saying they should have been notified when it was internal meeting. – The MDC Today – Issue 148
