Roads destroyed by rains

roadThe Ministry of Transport and Communication, and Infrastructural Development is appealing to treasury for little over $3million to repair roads in the country that have been eroded by heavy rains that pounded the country in the month of January.

Due to the rains most of the countrys roads are in bad state and potholes feature even on the countrys major highways such as the Harare-Masvingo road.

Patson Mbiriri the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said that in order to make the repairs, his ministry has requested $3 million from the Ministry of Finance.

The situation is worse for (for gravel roads) with wash aways being reported throughout the country. The rains have wrought havoc to our roads. Appreciable road repair works will be necessary requiring a little over three million dollars, a request to this effect has already been made to the ministry of finance, said Mbiriri.

Mbiriri added that once the his ministry gets the money the District Development Fund (DDF) will embark on repairing the damaged gravel roads.
