This country is eating its own children. They have destroyed the lives of many people all because of political differences, said Enock who is a Malawian national.
According to MDC statistics, over a thousand people have been displaced in the latest violent scourges. The international community has condemned the unfolding violence. A statement from the United States of America condemned the displacement of MDC supporters.
The United States is alarmed by, and condemns, the recent spate of violence perpetrated by youths and opportunists affiliated with elements of Zanu (PF). Such unlawful actions violate the Global Political Agreement and demonstrate that the undermining of the rule of law has not changed fundamentally, said the US Public Affairs Department in Harare.
MDC supporters have been the victims of the violence.
They came to my home when my husband had gone to work. They said that I had to leave Epworth as it is not a place for people who belong to the MDC. I was angry but there was nothing that I could do, said a woman from Epworth. I had to leave my home with my kid. My husband also fled but I do not know where he is.
Even though superior in number to Zanu (PF), MDC-T supporters have not taken the law into their hands.
You can just imagine what kind of people destroy homes. Even though we can stand up against them the police will fall on us severely, said youths from Mbare.
The United States also commended the restraint shown by MDC so far.
We commend the restraint shown by those victimised or affected by these assaults in not responding with violence. The US calls on all political parties to sincerely renounce violence as a political tool and for the law community to uphold the rule of law without partisan bias.
However, the victims of violence said that they have lost faith in the police force.
My market stall stand 44 in the retail market was taken and right now it is being used by a Zanu (PF) supporter. I lost goods worth US$150. I went to Matapi Police Station to make a report and the police said that I had to repent and join Zanu (PF), said another victim.
