Zapu youth condemns violence

election_violence_2008JOHANNESBURG - Youth members of Zapu party this week called on Zimbabwean youths to shun violence, which has continuously been used by President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu (PF) to cling to power.

Zimbabwean youths should not allow themselves to be used by politicians to perpetuate violence and intimidation against their fellows, said spokesperson Qhubani Msebele. Violence and revenge would only worsen Zimbabwes efforts to achieve national healing and human dignity for victims of political violence.

It is time we moved beyond the divisions of the past and the present, to allow for the emergence of a common national identity, a common nationhood and a common citizenship.

He said the Zapu Youth Front placed huge emphasis on citizen participation in all matters of politics, so that it is not the state or the ruling party that determines what has to be done, but the majority.

It is also our priority to safe-guard the rights of the minority formations and ethnic groups who are abused by the ruling party and those in power. We commit ourselves to political dialogue and violence is not an option, said Msebele.
