Ncube said the port would be situated at the Walvis Bay in Namibia and was expected to be completed during the second quarter of the year.
Zimbabwean and Namibian surveyors have teamed up and conducted a feasibility study in Namibia. They are currently rounding up work on the site which began in November last year. The port would be completed during the second quarter of next year. It will give local industries smooth entry into the Namibian market.
Ncube added that the government would engage the private sector to raise sufficient resources for building the port. He, however, could not divulge the amount needed to undertake the project.
The port would expedite the shipment of goods onto the international market. Zimbabwe currently relies entirely on the Beira corridor for the transportation of goods.
