Burst pipe causes concern

burst_pipeKADOMA - Residents here have had no choice but to drink dirty water after one of the citys main water pipes from Blue Ranges pump station burst, resulting in the contamination of treated water.

Residents who spoke to The Zimbabwean this week said a ticking health time bomb would soon explode in the mining city following the burst pipe.

The water we are drinking here in Kadoma is so unpleasant and produces brownish substances. Even if one boils the water, it will be still undrinkable. Most of the residents here are now depending on the bore holes which were dug by UNICEF during the cholera outbreak in 2008, said Tambanevako Guyo from Rimuka township.

Guyo said most of the bore holes had been vandalized and the few which were still operational were failing to cope with the increasing demand.

Most of the residents here are now going to Muzvezve river to do their laundry. The water situation here is so critical that a suburb as big as Rimuka shares two boreholes, he said.

The citys spokesperson Gear Hanyani could not be reached for comment.
