CCZ executive director, Rosemary Siyachitema, said the council was financially restricted and hence would be unable to reach the rural communities as earlier planned.
“Our focus will be on developing consumer clubs, consumer action and set up consumer focus desks in retail shops and that will depend on the availability of finances,” she said.
CCZ is still lobbying for a Consumer Protection Act which would enshrine the eight consumer rights, issues of competition in the market, labelling among others.
She said the long overdue legislation would give the consumer watchdog teeth as it was presently operating through moral persuasion and advice committees.
