The dossier is entitled “Corruption at Gweru City Council.” In the document in possession of The Zimbabwean, Gweru United Residents Association (GURA) Secretary General Danny Munetsi implicates Mayor Tadius Chimombe and fellow councillors in a deal in which they allegedly advertised commercial stands and then grabbed them. The dossier also pits Town Clerk Daniel Matau in gross misconduct.
Highly placed sources said some officials at the council were advocating for the urgent institution of a commission of inquiry to find out the relevance of the allegations. “The dossier indeed has truth in it. Some top officials are aware of this and they know they are guilty of charges being levelled against them and so they will not accede to a probe but other big shots want investigations launched,” said the source.
Town Clerk Matau confirmed that tension was gripping town house. “There is a lot of suspicion among officials at the moment about the dossier of the residents, but we are yet to come up with a position on the matter,” he said.
