DSTV subs up as European Cup looms

dstvHARARE - Zimbabweans tired of watching boring ZBC TV reruns will now have to fork out more cash for their imported DSTV programmes.

Citizens will next month pay between $3 and $4 more for their international programmes including for watching the very popular British Premier League Football as well as the European Cup. Multichoice told subscribers last week that the subscription price for their DSTV Premium, Compact and Compact+ bouquets would increase with effect from April 1.

Last year the cash-strapped ZBC TV increased its licence fees, angering millions of Zimbabweans who pointed out that most of its programmes are re-runs from the 1980s and virtually the only programme that one can watch is the Main News at 8:00 pm.

The new DSTV prices for the Bouquet such as the Premium is now $70, up from $66 monthly, Compact+, up from $45 to $48, and Compact, up from $25 to $28 monthly. “The price increase has already been structured into the Multichoice Africa (Private) Limited billing system and will be reflected on any subscription due on or after April 1, 2011,” Multichoice said.

“Please note that the monthly subscription for DSTV Access and Family bouquets remain unchanged. Charges for Dualview, Extraview, and PVR services also remain the same.”

Multichoice said it would remain committed to providing customers with “world-class entertainment”, as well as new technological and programming advancements. Many Zimbabweans have now installed satellite dishes at their homes due to the unpopular ZBC TV programming which usually shows out-dated Zanu (PF) propaganda black and white films shot before Independence.
