Five Student Activists Appear Before A Masvingo Magistrate

justice_scale_gavelFive Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) student activists appeared before a Masvingo magistrate yesterday facing charges of malicious damage to property and assault.

The charges emanated form a demonstration in 2010 when students were protesting against high fees and the decision by University authorities to bar those students who had not paid school fees from writing examinations. The five, Arnold Batsirai, Zivanai Muzorodzi, Gamuchirai Mukura, Godfrey Kurauone and Brighton Ramusi where summoned to court after the state had indicated that it was ready for prosecution. Trial in the case will start on the 1st of March.
