GMB retrenches workers

gmbHARARE - The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has so far retrenched 400 workers with more expected to face the chop.

According to GMB general manager, Albert Mandizha, a total of 400 workers have been retrenched since the inception of the exercise in February last year. “We are going to implement compulsory retrenchment in order to speed up the process as we have not maintained the targeted figure,” he said.

Instead of creating employment, the sinking parastatal contributing to the high unemployment rate in the country. GMB has been performing badly with a heavy dependency on the fiscus, a ballooning dept, serious deterioration of infrastructure, limited access to credit lines and poor corporate governance emerging as the major contributing factors.
