Guebuza receives Tsvangirai

armando_guebuzaMaputo Mozambican President Armando Guebuza (pictured), met on Tuesday in Maputo with the Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), to discuss how to dispel the current tensions in Zimbabwe.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, Tsvangirai said he had gone to Maputo to discuss with the Mozambican president the latest developments in Zimbabwe.

‘During the past two years we have had an inclusive government, but there are some problems in terms of cohesion. Therefore, we hope that the SADC (Southern African Development Community) organ on politics, defence and security, in which President Guebuza is one of the participants, will have full knowledge of these problems, said Tsvangirai

Tsvangirai added he believes that the problems causing tension and lack of cohesion in the current Inclusive Government can be overcome.

Asked about the specific matters discussed during the meeting with the Mozambican president, Tsvangirai declined to answer, saying that information is confidential.

Asked about the next elections in Zimbabwe, Tsvangirai also did not go into details, saying only that a plan that is being coordinated with the SADC region, in which the South African president, Jacob Zuma, will be acting as a facilitator.

That is why the SADC defence and security troika will be meeting to consider the plan for elections, said Tsvangirai

Reporters asked if he was satisfied with the implementation of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) signed in September 2008, between the two factions of the MDC and ZANU-PF, the party of President Robert Mugabe.

Tsvangirai replied Its not a matter of being satisfied. Every one who is part of the inclusive government should comply with their obligations.

Tsvangirai said he believed that Mugabe is still interested in implementing the agreement, otherwise he would no longer be a party to the GPA.
