The edition, which was launched in 2009 in Gweru amid pomp and fanfare, closed last week after failing to attract advertisers in the Midlands.
“Since its launch the Midlands edition has been struggling to the extend, and the Bulawayo office was not subsidizing its operations. As I speak right now, the edition’s editor Isaac Waniwa and some reporters have been recalled to Bulawayo,” said a source at Zimpapers in Bulawayo who refused to be named. “We are no longer receiving The Midlands Chronicle here,” said a vendor.
