Many believe this odyssey of the Zimbabwean Apostolic sect, popularly known as Madzibaba, down South is a consequence of their denomination reeling under the political siege from alleged Zanu (PF) thugs.
Madzibaba Daniel Moyo, who is staying in Jozis Alexandra Township denied this assumption and said the sects relocation was a divine call to spiritually serve the people beyond any boundaries.
Still practicing their typical Zimbabwean style of holding services in open spaces, Madzibaba is the latest phenomenon to hit the South African religious fraternity.
They deliver their sermons in Shona, attracting a large fellowship mainly of Zimbabweans, with a few locals.
Their healing services are free of charge, depending on the generosity of clients to offer them gifts in cash and kind as an appreciation for their work. But some pseudo-Madzibaba faith healers are infringing on this religious ethic by charging an extortionist ransom from those seeking help.
