Speaking to journalists in Harare today the MDC-Ns Secretary General Priscilla Misihairambwe said that even though the Tsvangirai-led party does not deserve her partys support the conduct of Zanu (PF) in the past few days which includes the arrests of MPs has resulted in the partys change of heart.
The events of the last week have merited a change in position. In particular the timing of the re-arrest of Hon Elton Mangoma, and the threats of further arrest of MDC-T MPs by the police.
This means that Zanu PF is seeking to rig the vote by the illegal reduction of eligible MPs able to participate in the election, said Misihairambwe.
Several MDC-T leaders face arrest on trumped up charges that include contempt of court. Among those that are facing arrest are former de-factor Speaker of Parliament Lovemore Moyo, and the Minister of Home Affairs Teresa Makone.
If the police manage to arrest the two it would reduce by four MDC-T members who will not be eligible to vote and this would tilt the voting in Zanu PFs favour which has its all 96 MPs.
The MDC in principle cannot watch such injustice take place. Whilst our view remains that morally the MDC-T does not deserve our vote. We have now decided that due to our belief in the fundamental values of justice, freedom and democracy. We will urge our MPs to vote for the MDC-T candidate, said Misihairambwe.
The smaller MDC led by Ncube has eight legislators who if they vote for Moyo would hand the seat to the MDC-T regardless of the detention of Mangoma and Constin Muguti.
