Netone roped in to sanction debate

netoneBULAWAYO - In a desperate move, Zanu (PF) has roped in state-controlled mobile phone service provider, Netone, to its so called anti-sanction crusade which was launched by President Robert Mugabe last week.

The mobile provider this week disseminated bulk messages to its clients urging them to append their signatures to the anti-sanction petition and denounce the targeted sanctions which were imposed by the United States , Britain and the

European Union on Mugabe and other senior Zanu (PF) for spearheading violence on opposition supporters during elections.

“The time has come for every Zimbabwean to sign the petition or dial 00447893327001 for the removal of illegal sanctions imposed by the EU and the US. Sanctions affect all of us, including business operations, employment and many other untold suffering we never imagined” reads part of the message which was sent to a Zimbabwean reporter on this week.

Netone clients who spoke to The Zimbabwean expressed concern over the messages. Most clients fear that they might be tracked and harassed if they fail to respond to the messages.

“I think I have to settle for another service provide. What Netone is doing is very unprofessional and unethical. I do not have anything to do with Mugabe’s targeted sanctions and yet they are sending me these messages. Why are they mixing politics and business?” said a Netone customer.

Repeated efforts to get a comment from Netone officials in Bulawayo were unsuccessful.
