Chibaya, who is also the Mkoba House of Assembly member, told The Zimbabwean that charges of “communicating or publishing a statement wholly false which undermines public confidence” currently being levelled against him were frivolous and vexatious.
Police recently summoned him to appear at the Gweru magistrates court on March 31 to answer to those charges. “I dont understand what the police are up to,” the maverick politician said. “The charges are very confusing. The papers sent to me do not state where, when and how I committed the offense. I am now convinced that they are discharging their duties beyond their present level of competence,” Chibaya said.
This is not the first time the legislator has had a confrontation with police. Last month his lawyer, Reginald Chidawanyika of Chitere, Chidawanyika and Partners Legal Practitioners, applied to the Supreme Court for intervention after he had been detained for three days on a case of assault. The case is still pending at the courts.Post published in: News
