The MDC provincial chairperson for Matabeleland South province, Petros Mukwena said villagers were being forced to attend all night political orientation meetings at Thornwood and Todds farms while the main base is located at the defunct Lemco Factory.
“Here in West Nicholson its back to the 2008 scenario .Villagers are being forced to attend Zanu (PF) meetings during the night. Some of the people who are forcing people to attend these meetings are Zanu (PF) activists who are still having pending cases of political violence in the courts from the previous election,” said Mukwena who is also a war veteran. Mukwena said the MDC was really worried about the development and urged the police in the province to stop the meetings before the situation get out of hand.
“We are aware that the venues of these meetings will be soon turned into torture bases as the election dates draws nearer .We expect the police to deal with this matter as soon as possible” said the MDC provincial chairperson. Mukwena said Zanu (PF) had no structures in the area and that is why the party was forcing villagers to support it. Andrew Langa, Zanu (PF) Matabeleland South Provincial chairman could not be reached for comment as his mobile phone went unanswered.
