Rafemoyo replaced at Zesa

zesa_logoHARARE - Engineer Josh Chifamba has replaced Ben Rafemoyo as Group Chief Executive of Zesa Holdings (Private) Limited (Zesa).

The struggling parastatal and electricity concern, has been largely accused of milking millions of dollars from the fiscus of the cash-strapped Government of Zimbabwe. While he was Minister of Energy, the late Dr Herbert Ushewokunze, accused the bosses at Zesa of being “the proverbial Ali Baba and 40 thieves”.

Ushewokunze said the Zesa bosses “stole money from the struggling parastatal at will” using their brief-case companies usually registared under their wife’s names.

This was after the much publicised but falied countrywide rural electrification project which never saw the light of day.

In a statement the Zesa Board said Engineeer Chifamba would be boss at the Zimbabwe Power Company Limited (ZPC), Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC), Zesa Enterprises and Powertel Communications Limited (Powertel).

The Board said Chifamba brings a “wealth of experience from the electricity sector, spanning more than 25 years”.

Prior to joining the Zesa Group, Engineer Chifamba, was the Commercial Director of Lesotho Electricity Company Limited. The top engineer also acted in the position of CEO at the Lesotho firm before returning to Zimbabwe.
