Road rehab costs US$90 000

PLUMTREE The Town Council here has embarked on a road rehabilitation programme that will see it spending US$90 000 in the next 10 weeks.

The town councils secretary, Davis Dumezweni Luthe, said the local authority, together with the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara), were rehabilitating two major roads in the border town with the intent of tarring them. We are busy working on our two key roads: Central Avenue and Main Street. Right now we are grading the two roads and then we will tar them afterwards, he said.

Luthe said it was of paramount importance for the town residents and people at large to know that it is not entirely a Zinara project, but a joint venture where both parties are financing the exercise. This project is being carried out the town council in conjunction with Zinara, in fact Zinara only injected US$48 000 and we chipped in with the rest, he said.

Luthe said the town council had also acquired a tractor and a lawn mower, which would be utilised in the collection of garbage and mowing of the grass. He said the grass cutting exercise, which would engulf the whole town, including residential areas, was expected to be complete within a month.

According to our calculations and projections, the exercise should be completed in a months time, he said. The tractor was bought by the town council at a cost of US$28 000 from Matabeleland Trader, a Bulawayo based supplier.
