Tomana defends office

johannes_tomanaHARARE - Attorney General Johannes Tomana (Pictured) has angrily defended his office and blamed the MDC for making false allegations when asked why the arrest of MDC officials were occurring almost daily.

They better be serious this time around, surely they better be serious this time, Tomana told journalists. MDC has accused the Zanu (PF) officials of using police to arrest MDC members of parliament to reduce their numbers, ahead of the up-coming election for a new house of assembly speaker.

Last week, co-Minister of Home Affairs Theresa Makone went into hiding following reports police were planning to arrest her and other officials of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirais MDC party. The position of speaker is vacant after the Supreme Court nullified the election of incumbent Lovemore Moyo after a challenge by former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo.
