Under the regulations the retail sector should be preserved for indigenous black Zimbabweans, but that, according to Upfumi Kuvadiki, is not the case as Chinese and Nigerians still dominate the sector.
“We are going to be using every channel at our disposal including the courts and the Parliament to ensure that we get the retail sector given back to local youths,” said the
associations spokesperson, Alson Darikayi.
Presently the retail sector is dominated by Chinese and Nigerians who Darikayi said should be weeded out to accommodate Zimbabweans.
According to Zimbabweans who work for the Chinese, they are underpaid and overworked.
Apart from targeting Chinese and Nigerians, the group has also set its sights on telecommunications companies. Upfumi Kuvadiki alleges that the telecommunications companies in the country are awarding tenders to foreign companies instead of providing opportunities for locals.
The group, that is widely believed to be linked to Zanu (PF), has distanced itself from the former ruling party despite the fact that senior party officials such as Didymus Mutasa and Saviour Kasukuwere are close to the association.
Upfumi Kuvadiki took a swipe at the government for awarding Easypark the tender to create parking lots in Harare, saying that such a move demeans the talk of national sovereignty.
