Villagers wise to sanction lie

MARONDERA-SVOSVE - Only two Mugabe supporters, Marondera East District Zanu (PF) Chairperson, Sheppard Zenda, and Headman, Costa Gwatidzo, turned up for a planned anti-sanctions petition signing at Nhowe Business Centre last Saturday.

More than three thousand villagers were expected to converge for the event which has widely been dismissed as a Zanu (PF) political gimmick. Everybody knows what the targeted sanctions are all about. Zanu (PF) continued to violate peoples rights with impunity. For some of us, tears are yet to dry following the brutal loss of our beloved ones at the hands of Zanu (PF) in June 2008, said an anti-Mugabe activist.

Villagers vowed to continue backing targeted sanctions until Mugabe and his party disappeared from the political landscape.

Meanwhile, traditional leaders in some parts of the country were championing the Zanu (PF) campaign to force helpless villagers sign the anti-sanctions petition.

In Mrewa North, disgruntled youths across the political divide resolved not to participate in the anti-sanctions crusade, to draw attention to their frustration regarding lack of employment opportunities in the country.
