Zanu uses jingles to campaign

MASVINGO - As Zanu (PF)s popularity continues to dwindle, the party has released political jingles in a last ditch attempt to win the urban vote.

Zanu (PF) has been airing jingles produced by local musicians in an attempt to win back the vote of the electorate. This comes several months after Andy Brown said President Robert Mugabe should assign musicians to campaign for Zanu (PF), in order to win the projected elections with a landslide margin.

The jingles include Mambo (King) by Steve Dhongi Makoni, Team Team and Mahwindi (touts) by Mbare Chimurenga Choir, Network by the Born Free Crew as the most notable songs. The songs have become fillers on several programmes run on the Zanu (PF) monopolized and controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) television and radio stations. This campaigning strategy is meant to portray Mugabe as a man of the people.
