According to a family member, Moyo (42) died at the Johannesburg Hospital last Thursday afternoon after a short illness, his brother Gilbert told The Zimbabwean o Sunday.
Moyo is survived by his wife and two children, both boys, aged 16 and 14.
At the time of his death, Moyo — who was arrested, tortured and incarcerated for more than three years by President Robert Mugabes previous government — was the chairman of the mainstream MDC-Ts Johannesburg North district.
We still have to meet and arrange how we will proceed with repatriating his body so at this stage, no arrangements have been made, said Gilbert, who described his brothers death as a big blow to the family.
Giyani Dube, the MDC-T South Africa youth chairman, described Moyos death as a big blow to the party, which is in the process of mobilising for Zimbabwe s next elections that could be held next year.
On behalf of the youth, I would like to say that we have lost a hero in Remember, who feared nothing and was always at hand to guide and direct us on how we could best move forward as a party, said Dube.
Moyo was one of several MDC activists arrested in November 2001, on allegations that they had murdered former war veterans leader, Cain Nkala and another Zanu (PF) activist, Limukani Luphahla, in the countrys second biggest city of Bulawayo.
The MDC activists were detained at Khami Prison in Bulawayo and while the others were released in separate court decisions in November and December 2001, Remember, Gilbert Khethani Sibanda and Sazini Mpofu remained detained.
The activists were severely tortured by state secret service agents in a bid to force to them to confess to the murders.
