In an interview last Wednesday, the MP for Silobela in the Midlands province, Amadi Sululu, said the government should decentralize the provision of ARVs to rural clinics.
ARVs are being found in hospitals in city centres, yet there are some rural clinics that require the drugs. Some of the villagers requiring the drugs are very poor and cannot afford to pay transport to hospitals in the cities, lamented the legislator.
He also expressed major concerns over the poor road network that has seen many transport operators shunning the route.
Although the Ministry of Health has deployed care givers in the rural areas, they (care givers) are very poor and are unable to travel to the hospitals and clinics to acquire drugs. We have a crisis because people requiring these essential drugs are dying, said Sululu. He urged the Ministry of Health to investigate the matter.
