Battle lines drawn for youth assembly chairmanship

thamsanqa_mahlanguHARARE - Battle lines have been drawn between the incumbent MDC-T Youth Assembly Vice Chairman Albert Chibaya and his Secretary General Solomon Madzore for the coveted chairmanship post that will be left vacant when current Chair Thamusanqa Mahlangu (picctured) steps down just before congress on the 30th.

The Zimbabwean is reliably informed that Mahlangu who took over from Nelson Chamisa, is aspiring for a higher National post and in the process opening the race wide between Madzore and Chibaya.

While Chibaya could not be reached for comment as he had travelled to Canada on an official visit, Madzore confirmed that he is indeed vying for the influential post that is widely regarded as a launch pad to dizzy heights in the youthful party that draws most of its support from the young.

The charismatic and eloquent party spokesperson Chamisa is a product of the Assembly. Its officials that I will be running for the post of chairman. However, I am not aware whether I will be contesting with Vice Chairman Chibaya, said Madzore.

Madzore said that there is no room for dirty mouthing ahead of the congress and said that he has already started canvassing for support in different provinces in order to ensure that he triumphes over Chibaya who he described as a comrade in arms, and expressed his willingness to work with him but only as a deputy.

I have no problems with Chibaya if he wants to be my deputy then I am fine with that, said Madzore.

On Mahlangu, Madzore said that the Youth Assembly will do everything possible to ensure that he gets a better posting adding that the Assembly cares for its members.

We are going to find a soft landing for chairman Mahlangu. We are not going to let our char go to a lower level but we will ensure that he gets a more influential position, said Madzore.
