Charumbira says no to violence

charumbiraMASVINGO Zanu (PF)s Chiefs Council president Fortune Charumbira said traditional leaders must be respected and recognised by society and government.

There is need for top government officials to change attitudes on how they view and regard traditional leaders. They should change the way they perceive the role of the traditional leaders in this country, Charumbira said. Traditional leaders had been very disappointed at being overlooked in the national decision-making process, and wanted to be involved in all the sectors including those of economic growth.

The well-known Zanu (PF) apologist surprised some by saying traditional leaders should work with soldiers on developmental purposes only. Only like building bridges and schools in their communities and not to host them (soldiers) on political grounds, he said.

Traditional leaders should not discuss political matters with soldiers but they should concentrate on developing their various communities. A commentator present said: With the praises that he gives (President) Mugabe, I am surprised that Charumbira can talk sense like that. Maybe he is beginning to see the light. Charumbira commended traditional leaders who agreed to stop violence during election time.
