Speaking to villagers from all political parties in the area Kaseketa said there was no more room for violence in the area that has been thus far divided on political lines especially because of the chiefs siding with Zanu (PF) members. The Chief made it clear that he will not tolerate violence. He said that the dark era of 2008 should never be allowed in Muzarabani again, said a victim who attended the meeting.
The meeting was organised by JOMIC and was graced by leadership from both Zanu (PF) and MDC, as well as victims and perpetrators of political violence in the area. Initially the perpetrators thought it was a confrontation meeting but that was not the case. The District Commanding Police Officer Mutomba promised that the police will be impartial in dealing with violence, said Agreement Kagura.
Previous meetings on national healing in the area have been characterised by accusations and counter accusations and threats. But the meeting that was held last week was very progression, according to Kagura. When we went to the meeting we thought that there was going to be trouble but when the leadership embraced we saw that there was harmony. The environment was good and the chief apologised to the people. As victims we accepted the apologies as this could signal the
beginning of a new era in Muzarabani, said Kagura.
