Chombo protects Council employee

ignatius_chomboMARONDERA - Zanu (PF) has vowed not to allow the City Council to replace its point man and under-qualified acting Chief Security Officer, Joramu Mbizi, with a substantive appointee. (Pictured: Ignatius Chombo)

Mbizi is the partys Mashonaland East Provincial vice security officer. He is notorious for terrorizing suspected MDC supporters with a butchers knife, dating back to the formation of MDC in 1999. June 2008 he reportedly roamed the rural areas wielding a council pistol and a machete, cowing helpless villagers to abandon MDC and support Zanu (PF).

On the sidelines of a Zanu (PF) Mashonaland Provincial Congress held at Kushinga Technical College last year, top officials resolved not to let go of the Chief Security Officer post in council. It is a pillar of strength for Zanu (PF) and the Junta. Since Zanu (PF) militia use fire arms to commit atrocities, council firearms would be readily accessible for use by perpetrators of violence, said a top source within the council management.

The local authority has been operating without services of the crucial officer since January 2009, when the former incumbent went absent without official leave and relocated to Australia. Since then Minister of Local Council and Rural Development, Ignatius Chombo, has thwarted every effort to replace him.

Council conducted interviews last year in a bid to fill the vacancy but it was taking too long for Minister Chombo to give us a go ahead regarding hiring serves of the successful applicant. When we completed conducting the interviews, we duly made relevant correspondences with the Ministers office. But Chombo has maintained a deafening silence regarding the matter, said Nyandoro.

He said due to non availability of the crucial Chief Security Officer, operations at the Fire and Ambulance services were conducted in a haphazard manner, putting lives of residents at risk.
