He died after a short illness. He served as the first MDC mayor in 2000. Chaimiti was Masvingo mayor for two terms from 2000 to 2005, when he was re-elected unopposed after the Nomination Court rejected the nomination papers of the Zanu-PF candidate, Patson Muzvidziwa.
The MDC described his death as a “tragic loss”. He was described as a “fountain of wisdom.” “He loved the city of Masvingo, its civic well-being and felt blessed to be able to lead the city at that time,” said provincial chairman Wilstuff Stemere.
Funeral arrangements for Chaimiti have not been finalized.Post published in: News
