The state-of-the-art equipment is meant for early diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB), but can also be used to test for other diseases such as malaria. The modern gadgets will be equally distributed to all hospitals in the 10 provinces.
The health ministry is already devising ways of training 520 operators who will use the new the microscopes – as more are expected soon – since the government is seriously taking measures in averting TB cases by 85 per cent before 2015.
Speaking at the handover takeover ceremony, the Germany ambassador Dr Albrecht Conze said there was need for Zimbabwe to continuously update its technology to curb TB.
