I will accommodate different political views – Denga

MUTOKO - MDC-T is a democratic movement with a wide catchment area, and will accommodate a divergence of political views among party supporters, says the recently elected MDC-T chair for Mashonaland East Province, Pinnel Denga.

I understand there are party supporters disputing my ascendance to the top provincial post for various reasons. But I appreciate and tolerate a divergence of political opinion as long as we, fighters for democracy, share common core objectives of the struggle for human emancipation from tyranny, Denga, who is also MDC-T Member of Parliament for Mbare, said.

Following my recent election to the provincial chairmanship Sunday April, 10, I would work tirelessly to unite party supporters within my area of responsibility and ensure MDC-T romps to a resounding victory in the next general election, said Denga in an interview with The Zimbabwean ****** as he toured Mutoko last Sunday.

He expressed disappointment at the internal squabbles currently rocking MDC-T and said urgent measures would be put in place to normalize relations among fighting party members. Denga rose to party provincial chairmanship at elections marred by violence at Harvest House early this month. Violence erupted after he was pronounced winner of the Mashonaland East Provincial Chairmanship ahead of former Provincial Treasurer, Ian Kay.

Some party supporters present cited what they alleged as irregularities in the voters accreditation process and burst into party songs. This was followed by a free-for-all fist fight which left scores of participants injured. Denga transported the injured to hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, MDC-T President, Morgan Tsvangirai, has called upon party members at all levels to work harmoniously with each other in the interest of the struggle for democracy. The party will be holding its annual congress in Bulawayo next weekend.
