Legal action for ex-mayor

KWEKWE The local council has called on its lawyers to force former mayor, Stanford Bonyongwa, out of the mayoral mansion.

Bonyongwa was supposed to have moved out of the house in 2008 when his term of office ended. That was after elections. He has, however, turned down an offer by the council to purchase another house in the city so that he move out of the mansion.

The mansion is located in the city’s plush suburb of Hezeldine.

Present mayor Shadreck Tobaiwa said the council had decided to embark on legal action because all diplomatic intervention has failed.

“We tried to talk to him but he has remained defiant so we have decided to seek the assistance of the law,” he said.

According to sources, the city fathers want to convert the mansion into a lodge in an attempt to generate revenue.
