The clerk, who is still finding it hard to accept the MDC-T triumph over Zanu (PF), told the state-controlled ZBC that he was now investigating whether the MDC-N violated the secret voting system by announcing that it would stand by the larger MDC formation led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.
Top MDC-T officials, who asked not to be named, said the victory over Zanu (PF) – despite bribery deceit and arrests of MDC legislators – signified a change in focus. They are seekinga way to remove the clerk of parliament who they accuse of being sympathetic to Zanu (PF).
We want Zvoma gone and we will do everything possible to remove him from the position that he has used to push the Zanu (PF) agenda. We are united in this desire to bring in complete change to parliament, said one MP. Under the Zimbabwean constitution the Clerk of Court is appointed by a Standing Rules and Order Committee in terms of section 48 of the constitution. His roles are administrative and procedural. He is responsible forkeeping records of both Houses and also is required to attend
important functions.
Zvoma denied Lovemore Moyo the right to vote and prevented the MDC-T from protesting against his ejection from parliament, but was lenient to Zanu (PF) after Jonathan Moyo was nominated. Zvoma allowed Zanu (PF) to Protest. Zvoma enjoys the support and trust of Zanu (PF). He is among several top officers has benefited from that partys system of patronage.
