Minister fumes over CIO

sipepa_nkomoGWERU - Water Resources and Development Management Minister Sipepa Nkomo (pictured) has fumed over the ban imposed on a march to commemorate World Water Day by the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) agents here.

The march was authorised by police but cancelled by the CIO at last minute. A visibly angry Nkomo slammed the state security agents and warned that he would meet their responsible minister, Sydney Sekeremayi, in cabinet soon.

“The national commemoration of World Water day is not a function of MDC or Zanu (PF). It is a government event, he said.

Its not the first time that the state security agents in Gweru have banned meetings to be addressed by MDC officials.

Recently, Deputy MDC Youth Assembly Chairman Amos Chibaya was denied an opportunity to address journalists. In the run up to 2008 elections, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was also barred from holding a public meeting in the city.
