“This is a historic moment for the people of Mthwakazi where we have gathered for the first time demanding their freedom, sending a clear message to Chihuri and Mugabe that if they do not give us referendum by the end of the year, they will see how serious we are,” said MLF secretary for legal affairs, Sabelo Ngwenya.
Members joined today in hope of presenting their sensation document to the Zimbabwe consolate. However their hopes were short lived as the consolate was moved incognito to Edenvale. Members claim this was done purposefully as they are pushing a movement that is not seen as being of purpose to Zimbabwe.
“We call upon the regime to remove the law in section 42 of the constitution which states that no one is allowed to insult a Shona speaking person as this is a punishable offence, but it is not an offence to offend anyone from other parts of Zimbabwe,” he said.
The people of Mthwakazi say they have been led to believe they are a minority when in fact they are a large group with the same goal. They marched around Johannesburg, consisting of Sotho, Ndebele, Kalanga, Venda and Tonga speaking people, all of whom say they feel deprived of their rightful place in Zimbabwe.
The group gathered at the end of the march to burn the Zimbabwe flag, chanting songs retaliating against the Shona Regime. The group said this was the first step towards their break from colonisation by the Zimbabwe government.
