Mubaiwas plea to Mapeza

mapeza_normanJOHANNESBURG - South African-based Zimbabwean midfielder-cum striker, Patrick Mubaiwa, has made a passionate plea to Zimbabwe national team coach Norman Mapeza (pictured) to consider players plying their trade in the neighbouring countrys second tier National First Division for national duty.

Mubaiwa turns out for FND Inland stream side, Witbank Spurs, where he has formed a telepathic striking combination with his twin brother Peter and 2007 Zimbabwean Golden Boot Award winner, Ralph Matema.

Fifth on the eight-team log, the Mpumalanga-based side has already stuttered out of contention for the season-end PSL play-offs, but not before the Zimbabwean players could make their presence felt in the league, with a turnover rate of a goal per game among themselves.

As a way of recognizing their contribution to the side, Siyavutha coach, Tshepo Ntia has rewarded Matema with the Captains armband, while Peter and Mubaiwa are his deputies, in that order.

Mubaiwa thus, believes that the trio deserves a place in the national team, which has so far failed to make an impression in the 2011 African Nations Cup qualifiers.

I dont know what criteria they use to select players for the national team and I am not complaining about it here, but I really believe that the three of us and other Zimbabwean players in our league need recognition, said the former Harare United star.

We have scored in almost every game which is proof that we are very capable and we can add value to the Warriors. I believe that we are hundred percent ready for the national team and that we should be given a chance to prove ourselves.
