Mugabe called to stick to SADCs position

mugabe_state_agentHARARE - President Robert Mugabe (Pictured) and his Zanu PF should not be allowed to dictate to the nation but should rather stick to the call by SADC to stick to the Global Political Agreement (GPA) and also put an end to violence, says the Human Rights Forum.

The call by the Forum comes in the light of statements by Mugabe who has been isolated by SADC, that the regional body should not dictate to the troubled country. The SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation meeting in Lusaka Zambia called upon Harare to among other things put an end to violence, complete steps necessary for a free and fair poll and also that all partners in the fibrous hybrid government should implement fully the GNU.

Regardless of the call by SADC an obstinate Mugabe said, we will not brook any diction from any source. We are sovereign country. Even our neighbours cannot dictact to us. We will resist that, the facilitator is the facilitator and must facilitate dialogue. He cannot prescribe anything.

However, the FORUM says Zanu PF cannot dicatate to the country. The Forum implores the Zimbabwean leadership to appreciate that Zimbabwe does not exist in a political vacuum,,, if Zimbabwe wishes to be a legitimate member of the sub-regional body and the international community our leaders must accept and agree to be bound by decisions of such bodies.

The desires and whims of a political party cannot override the national interest, said the Forum. While Zanu PF has in the past been swift to announce diplomatic victories scored during SADC meetings when there are favourable to them this time the regional body has dealt a heavy blow on Mugabe, further isolating the aging Zimbabwe strongman. The Forum urges SADC to insist that its decisions must be observed by all political parties.
