The groups included Mbare Chimurenga Choir assembled by Zanu (PF) Commissar and Information Minister Webster Shamu.
The group is known for the song Nyatsoteerera (Listen carefully) which claims Mugabe is the only one with executive powers in the present shaky coalition government.
The song is given excessive airplay on radio and television commanded by Happison Muchechetere at Zimbabwe Broadcasting Company (ZBC). Former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai demanded that the jingle be stopped given its divisive message. It seemed groups sympathetic to Zanu (PF) had been allowed to perform first while famous artists who had pulled in the crowd, like Alick Macheso, First Farai, Somandla Ndebele, Chioniso Maraire, and Rocki were relegated to the bottom of the line up.
I thought this was supposed to be a national gala not a Zanu (PF) gig and so it means I am out of place, one member of the audience told The Zimbabwean on his way out of Ascot Stadium.
