Sculptors suffer

sculpture4CASHEL VALLEY - Sculptors here have said their business is declining in value as a result of political instability. (Pictured: A Zimbabwean-made stone sculpture.)

“The political situation has heavily impacted on our business. Cashel Valley used to be a hub for tourists who came to view the mountains and the valleys. They would in the end buy our products as souvenirs, but now not even a single tourist is visiting this area because of the massive violence that is taking place,” said Edward Mambabvu.

Another sculptor who has traded his skills for tomato farming explained how Zanu (PF) violence had affected his business of many years.

“I have since abandoned the sculpture business. Tourists now think that Zimbabwe is an unsafe destination. I have been in this business for 15 years, but now I have stopped and I farm tomatoes. The violence here has stopped tourists from coming. I think as a country we should solve the issue of violence with immediate effect,” he said.
