While Chiefs have not played any competitive football in the past fortnight owing to the break, Wits have played in the CAF Confederations Cup, bowing out in the preliminary stages.
Zimbabwe centre-back Sweswe believes that will work in Chiefs favour when the two clubs meet in the league this weekend and later in the Nedbank Cup, which Wits are defending.
I do believe that it works in our favour to have these extra days off, Tinashe Nengomasha and I were in Mali, while Valery (Nahayo) was in Rwanda and also four other guys were in South Africa playing for Bafana and the U23s. When you travel far you need time to reacclimatize when you get back home. Having another week to prepare has been ideal because we have had the chance to recuperate and we have been able to do some extra work on the training ground, and also our wounded have had additional time to work their way to full fitness, he said.
According to Sweswe, Chiefs are not giving up in the title race and have been covering all their bases in preparing for their remaining six league games of the season.
Former favourites Chiefs have not done themselves any championship-winning favours lately with a string of indifferent results leaving them fourth on the log behind leaders Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
Sweswe is not throwing in the towel despite suggestions Ajax or Sundowns will bag it.
The guys are taking these games very serious, our title life depends on us being successful in each of our remaining league games, we have used this break to recharge body and mind and also have been able to assess the targets we have set for ourselves. Meanwhile, former Zimbabwean international Esrom Nyandoro was named Sundowns Player of the Month, last weekend.
