Tomana said last week his office had completed investigations in the case. Expect action any time from now depending on the finalisation of every pointer to the factual areas of violation. I can confirm that the Wikileaks interim report is now ready. What this means is that we are making progress in looking at those areas which are truly harmful to the security interests of this country. Of course we will follow up all the leads in the normal and professional way, Tomana told The Zimbabwean in an interview.
We need to investigate thoroughly, because the Wikileaks simply points to areas of concern and violation, and we do not proceed to prosecute on the basis of the Wikileaks, but on the basis of actual evidence that would have been found through an investigation, and normal laws permitted by our own constitution.
Tomanas probe is likely to crack down on MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai and some of his senior party members who have been named by the whistle-blower as suppliers of information. The Attorney General, who has been accused of helping Zanu (PF) to crack down on MDC party officials through the use of his prosecution powers, said he does his job without fear or favour.
That sounds like someone who thinks that politicians do not commit offences. We think differently, if a politician commits an offence against the people of this country our duty is to come down on them, he responded.
