Sako, who has been implicated in numerous incidences of political violence in the district, is now a member of the Nehemiah Mutendis Zion Church of Christ (ZCC). Famous for his Ivhu inhaka song, which praised the chaotic land reform programme, Sako was converted at a church service in Chipinge last Saturday. In his testimony after being baptised, Sako, who is also reportedly eyeing the Chimanimani constituency, said he had decided to join the church because of the social and political problems he is having in the party.
Sako said there are people in Zanu (PF) who are planning to kill him because he wanted to contest in the Zanu (PF) primary elections. He also said that he is facing both social and family problems which led to join the church, said one church source who attended the church service.
During the service, Sako donated $400 to the church and pledged to provide his trucks to transport members from Chimanimani to the headquarters in Masvingo during church conferences. Sako also urged the members to vote for Zanu (PF) and President Robert Mugabe during the forthcoming elections.
When reached for comment Sako confirmed that he had joined the church but denied that he was facing any challenges in his life. Masimba amwari anoshamisa. (Gods powers are amazing). I am now a member of the ZCC. I joined the church a couple of days after realising that without God in my life I cannot accomplish what I want, said Sako.
Asked to comment on reports that he is eyeing for the constituency, Sako said in fluent shona Kungotaurawo kwevanhu (Its just peoples talk).
