What happened to the dream?

mugabe_bobPresident Robert Mugabe (Pictured) was riding his high horse - as he does every time he goes to the state-sponsored Zanu (PF) cemetery. He repeated yet again his railings against the British his favourite subject.

We were told yet again how evil the British are and how he and Zanu (PF) fought for our Independence. The British lowered their Union Jack in Harare over 30 years ago. They have no intention whatsoever of coming back to re-colonise our country. Millions of Zimbabweans are fleeing the country many of them making their way to Britain.

Zanu (PF) has reduced Zimbabwe to a basket case. We cant even feed ourselves. Why would anybody in his right mind want to have anything to do with such a mess? It is all in the warped minds of Zanu (PF). They have nothing to offer the people. They have no plan, no ideas about moving our country forward. That is why they dwell on the past.

They are men and women of yesterday. Sick. Tired. Old. Uninspired. Living in the past. What our country needs is men and women with ideas. People who have strategies to develop the country for the good of all not just a privileged few. We are told Zanu (PF) brought democracy to our country. The British, Mugabe said at the weekend, cannot teach us anything about democracy.

We say they can. British citizens are free to hold opinions about the say their country is governed. They express themselves without fear of arrest or kidnapping or beatings by thugs in police uniform, or men in dark glasses. They sleep peacefully in their beds at night, without hordes of deranged militia forcing them to attend pungwes (all night political vigils).

How many Zimbabweans today believe that we enjoy democracy in our country? How many have been disenfranchised just because one of their parents was born outside the country or has foreign lineage?Have we asked the victims of Gukuranhundi, Operation Murambatsvina or other Mugabe-inspired atrocities whether they are enjoying our home-grown sovereignty and democracy? Our dream of democracy was hi-jacked by Mugabe and Zanu (PF) and turned into a nightmare.
