Youth leaders home torched

brighton_mrewaMREWA - A thatched bedroom belonging to outspoken MDC-T Mashonaland East Youth Provincial Organizing Secretary, Brighton Takavadini (pictured), was set on fire by unidentified assailants at Jacob Village here, o Friday night.

Takavadini, who was elevated from district youth chairmanship to the influential provincial post at the recent violence-marred election held at the party HQ on April 10, lost all his possessions in the blaze. No-one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

All my personal property was gutted. I suspect this to be an act of arson by enemies of MDC and me personally as a democratic youth leader. I made a report at Mrewa Police Station where a docket was opened and investigations are in progress. However, the cowardly act will not break my fighting spirit. Instead, it strengthened my resolve to fight dictatorship to the end, said the militant youth leader.

Takavadini is one of many MDC activists who have fallen victim to political violence since the formation of the party in 1999. June 2008 he was assaulted and left for dead by partisan soldiers at Mrewa Business Centre. He has told the CIO in the face on several occasions that he will not chicken out of the struggle for democracy until a new Zimbabwe is born.
