Youths threaten to exhume bodies

HARARE - The MDC-T Youth Assembly is threatening to exhume bodies of people buried by the government without involving a pathologist to ascertain their true identity. Zanu (PF) claims the bodies are those of victims of the 1970s liberation war despite the fact that some of the bodies are still fresh.

The Assembly claims that the bodies that Zanu (PF) is exhuming in areas such as the remote Mt Darwin belong to hundreds of the partys activists who disappeared between 2000 and present day.

We want an independent inquiry that will establish beyond reasonable doubt the true identity of the bodies, said Secretary General Solomon Madzore.

Carried out by a fanatical Zanu (PF) outfit that calls itself the Fallen Heroes Trust, the exhumations have raised many eyebrows.

Many people see the latest escapade as an attempt by the party to whip up emotions and canvass support ahead of the elections.

Faced with the embarrassing and undeniable fact last week that the bodies do not belong to the pre-independence date, President Robert Mugabe instructed his Co-Minister of Home Affairs Kembo Mohadi to take over the exhumations.

We are worried by the sudden change of heart that the government is now demonstrating. Why the sudden interest? As the youths of this country we do not want Zanu (PF) to hide the facts. If they choose to engage a pathologist they should be prepared to give the nation the results, said Madzore.
