Zanu (PF) youths impose curfew

zanu_youthSEKE - Zanu (PF) youths in Seke have imposed a curfew in the area barring people from walking in the streets after 8pm.

The move by the youths, most of whom are graduates of the infamous Border Gezi training camp, follows a spate of attacks of individuals in the area. But what has bothered residents most is the harassment they have to endure from the rowdy and drunk youths.

While it is commendable that the youths are trying to protect the residents what is shocking is that the police are not involved. The youths do not have the right to do that. We have a neighbourhood watch committee, said a resident. But members of this committee are no match to the rowdy Zanu (PF) Youths who are above the law.

Our hands are tired on the matter as we do not have the power to deal with Zanu (PF) youths. They can do as they please, said a member of the committee. People in the area claim that the Zanu (PF) youths have on several occasions harassed them.

We do not need to be protected by the youths, at least that is the duty of the police. There are now a terror to us as we cannot walk freely and it is possible that there are the people who are behind the attacks on people, said a resident. Even residents standing together as a group has been prohibited by the often violent youths.
